(New in Marvel Unlimited 1/08/18)
Marvel Comic Snippets: A weekly series where I highlight the interesting and amusing bits from new comics released into the Marvel Unlimited App. Instead of spending hours of reading, you only need ten minutes.
Before Wolverine heads off into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Lord has a chat with her about the potential adversaries they may face.
It does not take the team long to run into trouble.
Rocket makes a tactical decision to retreat.
While Wolverine rushes in to save her little sister/clone, Gabby, who they left on the spaceship.
Rocket seems confused why anyone would rush into danger. He must not have worked with many people named Wolverine before.
Back on Earth, Kate Bishop is conducting an investigation at a fight club.
Sassy Kate is the best Kate.
It doesn’t take long for Kate to be recognized as on outsider. Perhaps it’s the purple jumpsuit? Or maybe the quiver full of arrows? Nope, it has to be the lack of sweat.
Kate makes it out of the club and straight into more trouble as she fights her way to the top floor of a building to confront the man sitting at the top.
She beat your army once and she’s not afraid to do it again! It won’t be fun, but it’s totally doable.
Elsewhere, Deadpool bumps into Slapstick.
Who wants to rub your armpits with some Dead Stick? Yeah, Deadpool has a point.
The Unstoppable Wasp comic series mostly features on Nadia, the new wasp (the daughter of Hank Pym and his first wife), but every once in a while we get to see a bit about Janet, the original wasp.
And now we get to see one punching the other in the face. I thought it was interesting that Janet compared Nadia’s fast, precise punch to one from Taskmaster.
Janet knows Nadia reacted on instinct and immediately forgives her.
Janet’s inner thoughts about how others perceive her status as an Avenger is really interesting. She knows some people claim she was only on the team because she was married to Hank.
I would love to see Janet stab Clint with one of his own arrows. Has that happened anywhere in a comic? If not, this needs to happen.
Some more insights into Janet’s thoughts lead us to what she believes is her most useful power:
This whole time while Nadia has been at the hospital waiting on her friend’s surgery to finish, Janet has been nearby on the phone making countless calls to try to resolve the problems in Nadia’s life. Janet has a huge amount of connections to powerful people from superheroes to CEOs to politicians.
Janet’s latest call is interrupted by Whirlwind and Beetle.
Beetle is easily taken out, but Whirlwind is a bit more of a challenge.
The chair is the real victor of the fight though.
The Wasps aren’t the only ones in danger. Miles Morales is in over his head with Hammerhead. Really…Hammerhead? Yeah, apparently.
That’s not good. Lucky Miles’s friend, Fabio Medina, is here to rescue him.
But he better hurry!
Fabio is a mutant with the ability to launch golden spheres from his body. He goes by the super hero name of….Goldballs!
It’s going to take a lot more balls to stop Hammerhead.
Fabio looks a little nervous as Hammerhead charges closer.
This calls for more balls!
This doesn’t seem to be working. Let’s try even more balls!
Apparently, Goldballs is both his name and battle cry.
Hammerhead is crushed under a giant ball. I thought for sure the writer was going to go the direction of making little marble sized balls that Hammerhead would slip on and knock himself out. A giant ball is fun though.
I agree Spidey, and in more ways than one. It takes a lot of guts to fight a guy who you watched take out Spider-Man when your only power is making orbs. Goldballs has earned my respect…despite the choice of his superhero name.
Stubborn Spidey refuses to go to the hospital when his ribs are broken. ‘Tis but a scratch…I mean bruise. A really big bruise.
